Amputation Through the Hip Nowroozi examined hip disarticulation patients and hemipelvectomy patients compared with normal. These patients adjust their self selected walking speed to bring their energy consumption into a normal range. When they are forced to walk at speeds comparable to normal subjects their oxygen cost rises up to 125% of normal levels. References Nowroozi F, Salvanelli ML, Gerber LH.
